Funkadelic — американская музыкальная группа, созданная Джорджем Клинтоном в 1968 году. Продолжая начатое Джими Хендриксом и Слаем Стоуном, группа расширила представление о «чёрном роке», внеся в него элементы психоделии 1960-х годов и блюза в совмещении с мелодикой соула и фанка.

This funky little rocker involves a tale of urban decay as seen through the eyes of a child. Behind the greasy beat, the narrative voice recalls the ridicule of being the son of a God-fearing woman who did what she had to do in order to make ends meet and provide for the family. “Cosmic Slop” -- which is sci-fi slang for sex -- was the title track to Funkadelic’s fifth album. Having paired down to a quintet of instrumentalists, the band was becoming a tighter unit which would ultimately morph into Parliament. That evolution is becoming increasingly defined and “Cosmic Slop” is a prime example of the process. The glorious hypnotic pulsation that George Clinton would christen “the one” -- in reference to the rhythmic emphasis placed on the primary beat -- is definitely present and accounted for. There are several live renderings of “Cosmic Slop” that inclined parties should not miss. Primary among them is the Hardcore Jollies (1976) version, which is likewise the best track on the otherwise uneven studio effort. A seven-plus minute concert recording, that features the classic 1978 Parliament line-up, is available on the four CD import box set Greatest Hits 1972-1993. Bootsy Collins’ Keepin' Dah Funk Alive 4-1995 solo set also includes a raucous rendition. One of the best takes of the song is not from any members of the P-Funk mob, but rather the studio supergroup Material, who featured “Cosmic Slop” on their Third Power (1991) platter.
